The breakfast and lunch programs are funded by USDA.  They require that certain foods and amounts be served daily.  These are their guidelines for these meals.

Low Balance and Negative Balance Notification
As a service to parents we are able to notify parents/guardians, if we have your email address, when their child has a low or negative balance.  This service will notify you  when they are within two meals of having a negative balance.  If you are receiving this service and would like it stopped, call the food service manager at your child's school and let her know.
