Westwood Elementary Third Graders Learn the Value of Recycling

posted May 27, 2016, 6:01 AM by ACSD Webmaster

Westwood Elementary Third Graders participated in a recycling program presented by Mrs. Sabra Price.  The students learned how to identify the recycling symbol on products and the types of plastics that Abbeville County recycles at our Convenient Center. Students were also able to enjoy an ice cream treat that was in a recyclable cardboard container. Each student was given an item to determine whether it was recyclable or trash.  Mrs. Price told them to remember that "trash" was a dirty word and we all need to recycle!

Mrs. Jennifer Smith's 3rd Graders have been reading the novel Helen Keller and studying her biography. To help students' understand how Helen could read, Abbeville County School Disitrict's Visual Impaired Teacher, Mrs. Adrienne Padner, came to share her Braille writer and books with Mrs. J. Smith's 3rd Graders.  Mrs. Padner explained the history of using Braille with the blind and the process of learning to read the raised dots with your fingers. Students Teach

posted Apr 21, 2016, 12:13 PM by ACSD Webmaster

Diamond Hill Students "teach" other students by sharing their knowledge and unique talents. Throughout the year Mrs. Mann's third grade math and science students have enjoyed "lessons" taught by their peers and community members. Students discovered that first hand experiences are a great way to learn! Students also determined that we are all teachers as well as learners, and when we help others learn we increase our own knowledge as well.
