Fifth grade students in David Whitmire's classes at Westwood Elementary School in Abbeville recently completed an interview writing project. Students and their families were asked to choose the oldest living person in their extended family and to sit down to interview the person during the holiday season from Thanksgiving through New Years. Students asked questions about their family member's childhood, memories of the past including important presidents and key points in history. Students created a timeline, organized their writing, and presented the final copy. Students learned about their own family history and made connections between the topics in Social Studies class and someone they really know.
